Overview Academics Support Housing Culture Dates & Fees Application

Culture

Take part in essential Senegalese and West African experiences with your peers: Dakar has a vibrant culture that cannot be missed! Whether you prefer to lounge on the beach or cheer on the Lions of Teranga, the Senegalese national football team, there is something for everyone. APA arranges for students to take part in unique events and activities as well as travel to some of the major historical and cultural sites of Senegal.

Held every two years, Dak’Art, the African contemporary art celebration, brings a suite of unique exhibitions that are also incorporated during the program.

Day Trips

  • Gorée Island: Located a short ferry ride from the shores of Dakar, tour the island and pay tribute at the Maison des Esclaves memorial
  • Lac Rose: Also known as Lake Retba, the Pink Lake gets its name from the algae that produces a red pigment when absorbing light. Locals mine the lake for its salt, making it a key economic base for many in the area.
