Customized Language Support

All students take an online language evaluation administered during the pre-departure period for APA to prepare for the semester’s specialized support.

  • Weekly individual language support: Each week throughout the semester, students meet with the APA French professor individually for 30 minutes and separately with a teaching assistant for 1 hour working on oral and written expression.
    • Writing tutoring: learn how to write in the French academic style and proofread assignments prior to final submission for courses.

Academic Support

  • Two-week on-site orientation (one week by the sea, one week in Paris)
  • Personalized academic planning guide: Create an individual academic plan for the semester, complete with exam and paper due dates for each course, APA academic and language support sessions, and APA cultural activities during on-site orientation. With the assistance of the APA staff, you will always be a step ahead!
  • One-week course shopping period and on-site course registration: Sit in on up to 10 classes and at the end of the week, APA will complete the registration paperwork on students’ behalf.
  • Cours complémentaire: For each course in which at least three APA students are enrolled, a corresponding supplemental class is created, called a cours complémentaire. These meetings are taught by the instructor teaching the course to help students adapt their work to the French educational system. This supplemental class meets once every 2 weeks.
