When it comes to eligibility, the length of time spent studying French should be seen as a guideline rather than a requirement – not all students learn language at the same pace! Unless otherwise specified, we have seen students excel on our programs at a B1 starting language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Use the CEFR self-assessment guide for a breakdown of the levels.

Paris

  • APA welcomes a wide range from advanced B2/B2+ -level students ready for direct-enroll immersion and motivated A2+ learners who can progress rapidly through our intensive HIP track and expert language support.
  • Approximately 3-4 or more semesters of college-level French or equivalent (inquire for complimentary language assessment)

Length of Stay

  • Fall Semester: September 2, 2026 – December 20, 2026
  • Spring Semester: January 6 – May 16, 2027 (STEM students to May 30)

Academics

  • Hybrid direct enroll – course offerings at 11 Paris universities and institutions + APA
  • A2+ language level: up to 4 courses taught in French, participation in APA’s signature HIP (High Intermediate Program: includes intensive, individualized language learning course, FLE class at APA partner,  and two other courses in French) In rare exceptions, depending on students major and home institutions approval a class can be taken in English.
  • B2 language level and up: Up to 4 courses, all taught in French
  • Orientation: 1 week in Paris
  • Weekly customized, individual language support

Academics

Students complete two required four-credit courses that integrate French language study with Franco-Arab history and contemporary issues.

  • Two Courses:
    • Français dans la ville — Intensive French language (Beginner or Intermediate)
    • Entangled Worlds: Two Centuries of Franco-Arab Encounters (taught in English)
  • Field-based learning with site visits in Paris (mosquée de Paris, Musee de l’immigration etc.)
  • Introductory Darija lessons in Morocco
  • Orientation and ongoing academic support throughout

Accommodations

  • Student residence in Paris with breakfast, dinner and access to kitchen
  • Host family stay in Rabat (medina)

Culture
