Room & Board

Three options concerning Room and Board are available to the students.

FIRST OPTION

Since the best way to discover a new culture is to share the everyday life of its people, each student is offered the opportunity to live with a French family. This daily immersion enhances the student's knowledge of the French language and customs.

Accommodations in a French home include :

  • a private room,
  •  daily breakfast and five dinners per week (instead of 6 dinners the previous years) except during Christmas and spring vacations.

A.P.A. carefully selects the French families according to their motivation and readiness to integrate a foreign student into their daily life. Only one English-speaking student at a time is hosted by a French family.

A.P.A. pays particular attention to the student-host family relationship based on the housing questionnaires filled out by both the family and the student. Students settle in with their host families three days after their arrival in Paris in order to afford the A.P.A. staff a brief period to consider the best possible match between students and host families.

In the event of homestay problems, A.P.A. does its best to resolve them. Solutions may include a change of host family when necessary.

THIRD OPTION

Students may prefer to make their own living arrangements and live independently in an apartment or student residence hall. Students must arrive in advance to arrange accommodations and settle in before the orientation period begins.

A.P.A. staff will provide suggestions for finding housing, but it is the student's full responsibility to find his or her own housing. Students enrolling for the Spring semester should note that the beginning of the fall semester is the best time to find housing in France.

Parents are required to give their written approval for this option and assume full responsibility for all financial commitments incurred by the student.
